Firstly, the success story behind our research work was due to knowing the fact on how virus really works, he said for a virus to be able to cause disease it must be able to get attached to the surface of a cell and then penetrate before it sends in its nuclei materials to the cell for hijacking of cellular process and reproduction before it finally kills the cell.
While the team explored more on the attachment phase of the virus into the cell, he explained they got samples of alveolar cells form people exposed to the virus and never got infected, in the experiment carry out they infected alveolar cells with the virus invivo and noticed no plague or lysis of the cell for about 96 hours.
It was later discovered that those sample cells being extracted have acertain features about them that make them unique from others, They noticed that there is an absence of Angiotensin converting enzymes (ACE-2)
ACE-2;This is a protein complex present in the surface of the alveolar cells in which corona viruses bind to, because they posses a unique receptor that only binds to the spikes present in corona strains that is why they have the ability to cause infection.
ACE-2 serves as a cell membrane and present in all alveolar cells, This protein complex hold the hidden immunity against corona virus because all viruses needs a site of attachment to a cell and the site of attachment of corona virus to alveolar cells is the ACE-2 which is like a gateway receptor for attachment of covid-19 virus.
At the end it was noted that those people that don't posses ACE-2 in their alveolar cells can never be infected with corona virus even when the virus is in their body.
After the experiment the scientists developed a kit that can test the presence of ACE-2 protein complex in the body, and have tested it in about 207 volunteers and noticed that about 11% of them are immune to the covid-19 virus.
